In this cycle of NBA Live Mobile, the mission was to update our visuals and overhaul some of our key screens to make them more user friendly and exciting.
The Challenge
Update screens to be more user friendly, current, and exciting without losing the familiarity of how they functioned in the past.
The Plan
Create a set of UI components/templates for engineers to work with, and develop an art guide for artists and game designers to reference throughout the development cycle.
Style Guide
Houses guidelines for the games logo, 2D and 3D art treatments, environments and backgrounds, color palettes, typography, and iconography style. This is made to create the game's theme and atmosphere.
Design System
A collection of reusable components and templates that streamline the design and development of user interfaces. This system maintains consistency, accessibility and efficiency across the game.
The Team
The artists assigned to this task consisted of myself and an Associate Art Director. My role on the team was to work with the Associate Art Director to create templates for artists, a catalog of specifications for game designers, and develop a design system for engineers. Between myself and my colleague, we were responsible for the overall direction of the game.
The Design
Having an art system is a great way to keep everybody aligned when moving through art production during the year. This guide was sent out (along with PSD templates) to the team so that they could create art that fit within the new seasons specifications. The feature designers and producers also received this visual guide, so they would be able to refer to a catalog of what they could ask to have made in the new season.
Screen Examples
The work shown above coupled with live content art come together to create our screens.
